TF/TG Story Excercise

After talking about stories within the TF/TG genre recently I was thinking about doing a little excercise.
Very often, the transformation is the event that everything is centered around and makes the story a 'One Event Story' which usually only works for short stories.
Additionally, there is the subject of 'voluntary transformation' which might remove the conflict from the story, but not necessarily.

So, here's what I thought about. Let's use the transformation as an opportunity to solve a problem. Here's how it works.
  • Main Character MC has a problem PR which they're becoming increasingly irritated about.
  • This Problem PR becomes undeniable and unignorable because of some sort of social humiliation (doesn't have to be big or intentional humiliation; we're aware that it is a problem but we agree that this was too much)
  • A witch/wizard/genie/wishing-coin/someone WI offers MC to transform MC into a TR. MC doesn't want to be a TR, but sees it as an intimidating opportunity to fix PR.
  • MC hesitates until the stakes are raised, but finally agrees and WI transforms them into a TR.
  • Transforming into a TR quickly leads to an unforeseen conflict with another person.
  • MC takes the easy way, which is fun for some time, but ultimately leads to disaster
This would be the first act (and some of the second act) of the story.

some examples:
  • Married couple with one child has relationship problems. Couple has an argument in front of friends and colleagues. They need to visit a marriage counselor. The marriage counselor offers them to switch their bodies. Neither of them really wants to, but they realize that literally walking in the other's shoes might help their relationship immensely. They hesitate, but ultimately decide to do it after acknowledging that a divorce might just be so much worse and they didn't even want to think about what would happen to their child. The marriage counselor switches their bodies. They're awkward in their new bodies and their child almost immediately notices that something is wrong. (Maybe they tell the kid and it's not happy about it, or they don't tell it, and it causes problems). The couple behaves as they would normally do as themselves, but that kind of behavior isn't expected of them where they work, leading to some trouble
  • Guy never had a relationship. Guy's friend accidentally embarrasses Guy over it, making Guy believe he really has to get a girlfriend. Some magical person offers Guy to transform him into a girl. Guy doesn't want to be a girl, but acknowledges that being a girl could give him unparalleled insight into a girl's mind. After noticing that the prom is just around the corner, Guy takes the chance and becomes a girl. Anyone could become Guy's problem at this point; maybe his sister, his parents, his friend, the girls in his class? Guy doesn't really see the point in talking to other girls and instead, experiments on his own, behaving like he would want girls to behave. This quickly leads to trouble.
  • Dude needs money to pay the rent, fast. He's friends with a married couple, who offer him to transform him into a child for a week or two for pay. They don't have any children and they need to impress a boss or something. Dude reluctantly agrees and becomes a child again. What he didn't consider was that the couple wants their child to behave a certain way. Still, MC sees this as an opportunity to behave, you know, like a child again and plays and lazes around and everything. His 'parents' aren't too happy about that.

Important to note: Becoming a TR shouldn't solve PR by itself. So PR being "Ugh, I'm too old" can't have TR be becoming a child again; PR being "I want to be a woman" can't have TR be becoming a woman. No, TR is not the solution to PR, but simply an opportunity to fix it. That said, becoming a TR shouldn't be a no-brainer either. MC doesn't WANT to become a TR and they justifiably hesitate to take the offer.
Another Note: MC clearly makes the decision to take up the offer. They didn't have to. They weren't forced to. You could imagine them finding an alternative to fix their problem.
TR can be anything: child, animal, other gender/sex, ethnicity...

So... how about you try it?
